Inspired by the idea of future civilizations not having context for the meaning or intent of a piece of music or lyrics they might find, the soundtrack includes post-apocalyptic versions of the Welcome Back (Kotter) and Green Acres theme songs, Wang Chung's " Everybody Have Fun Tonight", as well as American anthems and bible hymns. The soundtrack received special attention from inXile's Brian Fargo when he hired Mary Ramos, known for her work as Quentin Tarantino's music supervisor to create music for Wasteland 3. Two expansions, titled Battle of Steeltown and Cult of the Holy Detonation, were released on June 3, 2021, and October 5, 2021. The game was eventually ported to Linux and macOS in December 2020. It was delayed again due to inXile's remote working conditions from the COVID-19 pandemic, while the Mac and Linux versions were postponed to an undisclosed date due to developer's "decision to focus Wasteland 3's initial release on Windows 10, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4". The additional budget was mostly spent on implementing conversational scenes and hiring voice actors. The game's budget was three times more than Wasteland 2. After Xbox Game Studios acquired the company, inXile hired more staff for the game's development and delayed its release date to early 2020. The game was scheduled to launch on Linux, PlayStation 4, Windows and Xbox One in Q4 2019. The crowdfunding campaign launched in October 2016, and concluded a month later with over $3 million raised. Unlike their previous Kickstarter projects, inXile chose to use equity crowdfunding service Fig. As with Wasteland 2, inXile chose to crowdfund the development of the game. The development team is composed of people who worked on Torment: Tides of Numenera (2017). Wasteland 3 was developed using the Unity game engine. Wasteland 3 was announced by inXile Entertainment in September 2016. Player must then decide whether to uphold the original bargain or work to free Colorado and potentially endanger the future of Arizona. However, as the story unfolds, the rangers discover the extent of the Patriarch's brutality, and are contacted by Angela Deth (a returning NPC from previous Wasteland games) who asks for their help in sparking a rebellion against the Patriarch. Once arrived and settled, the rangers are informed by the Patriarch that they are to hunt down and rein in his three heirs, who have gone wild and begun fighting each other to succeed him, as well as fight to preserve his rule over the many settlements and scattered populations that make up Colorado. The two survivors are subsequently forced to work with the local ruler, known as the "Patriarch", in order to earn his support for the Arizona Rangers - after the last game, and the choice between Highpool and Ag Center, the Rangers are struggling to keep order in the face of increasingly severe shortages of food and water. The player takes control of two members from Arizona Ranger Team November, who survived after their unit was ambushed while on a mission in Colorado. Wasteland 3 is set in the frozen wastelands of a post-apocalyptic Colorado. The main campaign can be played cooperatively with another player. The game introduces a vehicle that the players can use to traverse the world and store supplies. In the game, players need to make various choices, which have different impacts on the game's world and the story. Played from an isometric perspective, the game features synchronous and asynchronous multiplayer. Wasteland 3 is a squad-based role-playing video game featuring turn-based combat. And for Apple fans, that could be just what's needed to get excited for Cupertino’s usual fall showcases. Ultimately, software and what’s next for Apple Silicon will receive the bulk of the attention at WWDC 2021. We'd anticipate that coming in the fall with new iPads. There’s an outside chance that we could see the debut of the AirPods 3, though that's the kind of product usually reserved for phone and tablet launches. It's also possible that Apple could hold off on announcing new hardware at a developers conference, reserving its product launches for separate events. Those Mac machines could be a 27-inch iMac 2021, the 16-inch MacBook Pro 2021 and the MacBook Air 2021, all of which we’re expecting to come with a redesign over their predecessors and upgrades such as micro-LED displays. So we could see a new version, the Apple M2 chip, revealed Monday, and even new Macs to host the new silicon. Lock the Apple WWDC 2021 keynote time into your iCal: Tim Cook will take the stage Monday, June 7 at 10am PDT, according to some official news (opens in new tab) by the company today. WWDC will likely see the launch of betas for both iOS 15 and macOS 12, before the full releases arrive this fall.Īt last year's WWDC, the Apple Silicon initiative was revealed, with Cupertino stating how it wants to leave Intel CPUs behind in a transition to its own in-house chipset, first seen with the Apple M1 chip. 6:00 AM How to Watch Today's Apple WWDC Keynote The annual event starts at 10 am Pacific with news about software updates coming to iPhones, iPads, and Macs. Keynote (ASL) The Apple Worldwide Developers Conference kicks off with exciting reveals, inspiration, and new opportunities. There are expected to be "notable changes to the user interface", though for now, there are no details on what these changes might entail. As mentioned earlier, Apple uses WWDC to dive into new features and capabilities of its software suite. The next major software build coming to Apple Watch is expected to be watchOS 10 and while we didn't see huge changes with watchOS 9 - aside from sleep stages within sleep tracking and some other small changes - it's thought watchOS 10 will be a more "extensive upgrade". Third party app stores have also been rumoured for iOS 17 so it's expected that iPadOS 17 will adopt this too. It's likely that a redesigned Control Centre will also carry over to iPadOS 17 if iOS 17 introduces it, and there is talk of the Lock Screen from iOS 16 coming too. Most are only interested in June 7, 2021, from 10:00 AM PT to perhaps noon. There haven't been as many rumours surrounding iPadOS 17 as there have been for iOS 17, though we still expect all the new software features coming to iPad for later in 2023 to be announced during WWDC. Apples Worldwide Developers Conference 2021 is an online-only event, that runs for the whole week of June 7 to June 11. We're keeping track of all the iOS 17 rumours in our separate feature. Some changes to the Control Centre have also been rumoured. The software update is expected to be iOS 17 and rumours so far suggest it won't be a major overhaul, but there could be some "nice to have features" introduced. We expect to see announcements surrounding the next iPhone software update during WWDC 23 and what features that will bring. Me and the Walmart on the southwest part of Amarillo are now pretty good friends. You are right it is small, but I went right to sleep when I hit the sack and didn't wake up until morning. This past trip when I broke down, I stayed at that Love's in Conway overnight. The first time I met Bob Waldmire was in McLean, if you know who he is. I just didn't know that you could overnight. It was built while I was past the area as far as walking, but I have stopped there several times since and have seen it at night too. I have lots of memories from that McDonalds in Shamrock. I don't remember the number of the exit, but drank many a cup of coffee there, and always for. I do miss the old Cowboys restaurant near the Texas border in Oklahoma. I am familiar with all this areas from when I walked the highway, but obviously I wasn't boondocking back then. Perfect Brian.thanks!! I will add all this to my list and it will help a lot! This will get you to the Amarillo area where you have some experience already. But you are very close to the Pantex Plant and the Rick Husband International Airport, so dont fly your drone if you have one! I have a 2002 Dodge conversion van so it is reasonable stealthy and set up to live in. I would welcome any suggestions and if you know of anyone personally that lives along this area that might let me even park in front of their house at night that would be great too. Obviously I am trying to save on gas expenses by not shuttling myself back and forth for very long distances. It looks like that there are some hospitals in some of the towns, but I have never overnighted at any of them. Other than that, I know of a handful of truckstops through there. I also know that there is a Walmart SuperCenter in Yukon, Weatherford, and Elk City and have actually stayed overnight at the one in Elk City. I am familiar with the park in Elk City that is on and plan on using it. Believe it or not, I actually walked the entire length of the highway from Chicago to Santa Monica 12 years ago, but, unfortunately, when you are walking you don't have the time to do this kind of work, but I don't want to let this experience simply go by and want to preserve it and all the experiences that happened along the way. I will be doing documentary work on Route 66 so I am not interested in covering ground quickly as it may take up to 2-3 days to shoot video in some places depending on how the weather is and, of course, allowing for time for choosing the right spot, etc. One is an offline manual lookup mode for when you don't have service.I will be spending some time in October in western Oklahoma between Oklahoma City and the Texas border along the I-40 corridor and would like to know if anyone has experience with boondocking along that path. Second-generation Voltec electric drive system with 18.4-kWh lithium-ion battery pack and Ecotec 1.5L gas-powered range extenderġ3 hours (approx. Don’t forget, it’s an eight-gallon tank.Fuel Efficiency | Fuel Tank Capacity | Engines | Transmission and Axle | Chassis/Suspension | Exterior Dimensions | Interior Dimensions & Cargo Volume | Weights & Capacities Also, when you are completely charged with a full tank, you will get around 40 miles all electric and 380 miles on the gas, witho a combined total range of around 420 miles. General Motors claims 106 mpg-e which incorporates the electric charging average and 42 mpg average gas-only. So mileage, that’s a rough estimate because you are using two types of fuel and it’s hard to quantify your home battery-charging costs. So upgrading to a 240 line is recommended if you plan to own a plug-in vehicle of any kind. Charging it from almost empty takes 12 or more hours on a regular plug in your garage. There is also a Mountain setting that reserves battery for hill climbs. You can actively change how the car operates to be the most efficient at the specific time. It's ideal for people who drive in town, then highway to work, then in town again. What this does is lock the battery at the current charged level and uses the generator almost exclusively to save battery for city driving. One of the features I loved about the Volt was “Hold” mode. You can plug in for 40-plus miles of electric charge and use the gas engine to help on highway commutes. But really, if you commute in the city to suburbs primarily, the Volt is a really nice alternative to gasoline or even hybrid cars. The car jumps to attention and will blast down the highway. It’s a smooth application of power and even more rewarding when in sport mode with a full charge. It’s a really neat idea and one that sips both fuel and electric.Īs far as a transmission goes, the car is really just a CVT with electric propulsion, so there is no shifting like traditional gear boxes and the car doesn’t hop around gears. Once that is gone, you will use the gasoline motor on board to fuel the charging of the batteries to get you home or to a gas station. If you charge the car to full capacity, you will have somewhere between 32 to 45 miles of all-electric (EV) mileage. An onboard gasoline generator provides charge on demand, so you can travel an extended range of miles past the car's battery pack mileage. Simply put, the Volt is always propelled forward or backward with electric motors. So with batteries, electric motors and a gas range extender on board, I’ll do my best to break it down. For the most part, most people won’t notice the difference while driving this car as opposed to any other small sedan. Acceleration is pretty decent, and driving an electric vehicle is actually really nice, with no hesitation in the gas pedal. Those combine with the 1.5-lion range extender gas engine to provide a total output of 149 horsepower but 297 pound-foot of torque that will propel this hatchback to 60 mph pretty quickly. Under the hood is a Voltec Electric drive unit and a Li-ion battery unit. This week we take a look at one of my favorites: the Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric vehicle. Keep in mind these are all introductions to the cars of the future that will combine all of this tech in different ways to make all sorts of efficient vehicles. Then everyone would really understand the pros and cons of all types of electric, hybrid and plug-in vehicles.Įach has a niche, and each has its drawbacks. Everyone should spend some time with a Volt, a Prius, an Insight and a Tesla. I did encounter issues where it would crash to the desktop if I left the benchmark results on the screen for too long. Even the lower-end cards had little stuttering and smooth gameplay despite the lower framerate. The overall performance is still quite decent, considering.ĭespite the prevalent complaints about the performance being poor, Batman Arkham Knight ran rather smooth during all benchmarks. GameWorks here seems to primarily be using the compute queue, so the performance difference with both CPU's is similar. The i5 is clearly far less limited in its resources and the IPC advantages are fairly clear. 1080Pġ080P offers a similar if slightly higher framerate for both processors. Regardless, using CUDA with DX11 asynchronously isn't the most efficient operation, as we can see. Asynchronous compute isn't explicitely supported by DX11, though, so NVIDIA has to enable context switching within the driver itself. This method is likely the source of the relatively large drop in performance. In GameWorks, asynchronous compute isn't used to speed up performance per-se, but instead to be able to increase the level of fidelity with a reasonable performance hit. Batman Arkham Knight actually make use of the compute queue on NVIDIA cards asynchronously with GameWorks enabled, meaning that some of those effects make use of CUDA. GameWorks does have quite the hit in performance, but this is because the rendering, or even compute, overhead is a little higher than without it enabled due to the different effects that can be applied. Though NVIDIA clearly has a a performance advantage, neither companies cards provide a poor overall experience, though the low-end are obviously not well suited to such a resolution. It runs rather fast without GameWorks enabled, exceptionally fast in fact. Performance of Batman Arkham Knight seems to be fairly good here. Settings Used:įinally, let's take a look how Batman Arkham Knight does with the newest patch. But we'll examine what effect that those two settings have on a vanilla Fury and a Titan X later in the article. The in-game benchmark was used and compared against FRAPS for accuracy and exported into Google Docs, hence slight change in format over the usual charts.Įnhanced Rain and Light Shafts have been turned off for the main test for all cards so as to have parity. For GameWorks results, everything was turned on for all NVIDIA cards at both resolutions. Testing was done at two resolutions, 1440P and 1080P, and with the settings recorded in the screenshots below. Test Setup: ComponentĪMD R9 Fury, AMD R9 Fury Nano, AMD R7 370, GeForce GTX Titan X, GeForce GTX 980, GeForce GTX 960Īnd of course a big thank you goes out to ASRock for lending us a Z170 Extreme 4 motherboard for our test bench. Whether the integration of GameWorks has been troublesome for Rokcsteady or if it's been the sole cause of the headaches that they've no-doubt felt as they've struggled to bring this beast into performance parity with other modern games. GameWorks is seen as being the primary reason that performance has suffered on NVIDIA cards, and is even sometimes the focus for complaints surrounding other issues of stability as well. The only issue is that I didn't own it before the re-release, so I cannot compare my results to my own, but instead offer these as a point of reference for your own metrics. But is it enough?īut those aside, we'll strive to show you how it performs on two different systems with a variety of GPU's to see if it's improved or is even smoother than it had been in the past. Batman Arkham Knight might just perform a little better now. One of the major issues that hasn't yet been addressed is that of multi-GPU support, one which might further increase performance for those that have the means and are able. Crucially some of the issues and concerns surrounding even the re-release of the game aren't necessarily performance related, but are instead other small, or large, bugs and glitches that tend to crash the game or simply make it unplayable. So today we'll take a deep dive into the performance of Batman Arkham knight to see how it does from a pure performance standpoint. PC sales were suspended until it was finally brought back by WB Games and Rocksteady Studios, who were confident it would be well received, though this re-release was also met with some skepticism and even angst as it also didn't quite run as smooth as some expected. Batman Arkham Knight has be re-released on the PC once again after having been pulled from all sales platforms due to performance issues that had been reported a large number of users. The French bombarded Fort Douaumont and recaptured it on October 24. By October 21, 1916, the German troops became exhausted while their rejuvenated French counterparts launched a counterattack. As the German regiment advanced into French territory, it shelled the French defenses with poisoned gas in an attempt to capture Fort Souville, however the attempt failed. At this time, casualties on both sides were many. In the months following, the Germans captured three other French villages to the east and west of Verdun. The French troops retreated to Douaumont village, which the Germans later captured on March 2. As communication deteriorated, the French high command realized the seriousness of the attack. By February 23, the German army had advanced into French territory and captured two French battalions without the knowledge of French leadership. The German front began the war on February 21, 1916, through a ten-hour artillery bombardment by 808 guns followed by an attack by three army corps. From 1903 onwards saw the addition of more guns, a concrete banker, and other defensive machinery. The outer forts had 79 guns in shell-proof turrets, and 200 light guns and machine guns to protect the trenches around the forts. The forts were engineered to be more resistant to artillery in the 1880s and overlooked each other to provide mutual support when needed. In the 1870s, Séré de Rivière devised a programme to build two lines of fortresses from Belfort to Epinal and from Verdun to Toul which were defensive screens and also enclosed towns which, initially, were to be bases for counterattacks. Due to the city’s strategic location on Meuse River, it played a crucial role in the defense of its surroundings. In 1648, the Peace of Munster treaty awarded Verdun to France. History of Verdun and Background of the Battle The Battle of Verdun, popularized by the phrase “ill ne passeront pas” meaning “they shall not pass,” brought much destruction and caused people to think of it as the war to end all wars. The war resulted in the deaths of about a quarter of a million people and left another half a million injured. This battle was the largest, longest, and among the most important battles in First World War on the Western Front. The Battle of Verdun occurred between the German and French armies, and took place around the city of Verdun-sur-Meuse in North East France from February 21 to December 18, 1916.
